Barley Mac thrives in Rosslyn
Restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine and craft cocktails
The owners of Don Tito and G.O.A.T. opened Barley Mac, a new restaurant and bar located at 1600 Wilson Boulevard in Upper Rosslyn in May 2016. The 300-seat establishment features contemporary American dishes and nearly 100 bottles of whiskey, 18 seasonal and traditional cocktails, 14 draft beers, and wine by the glass and bottle.
Local chef Michael Cordero developed the menu, which is inspired by the traditional European brasserie, with a focus on seasonality. Dishes include blue crab, lobster, tomahawk pork chops, and homemade gelato for dessert. Starters range from $10 to $14 and entrées from $14 to $29.
The bar program was developed by Mitch Johnson, formerly of the Robert Wiedmaier Group. With nearly 100 bottles of whiskey, including 53 regularly stocked bourbons, Barley Mac has one of the largest collections of whiskey in Arlington. The cocktail menu has 18 seasonal, traditional and prohibition-era drinks.
One of Barley Mac’s signature cocktails mixes Woodford Reserve bourbon with apricot preserves and Aperol and is finished with sage and lemon. Cocktail prices range from $8 to $14. The draft beer list includes local and national craft breweries. Prices range from $5 to $8. Happy hour specials run Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and include $5 wine and special cocktails, as well as $1 off drafts.
The restaurant features a large patio facing Wilson Boulevard that will seat an additional 100 guests for outdoor dining and drinks. Barley Mac also plans to regularly host special events, including an upcoming patio party featuring Southern Tier’s Chocolate Orange Stout.
Barley Mac aims to be a neighborhood gathering place for friends and families, whether for a round of drinks at the bar, a casual midweek supper, or a special evening out on the weekend.
