Dr. Iyer’s talk, titled “Strengthening the Refugee-Supporting Ecosystem by Focusing on the 'Public' within Data Science for Public Good,” will be a discussion regarding how involuntary human migration is accelerating due to changes in worldwide demographics, political upheavals, economic dislocation, technological advances, and climate change.
The Data Science for the Public Good Distinguished (DSPG) Speaker Series invites discussion with the community to encourage civic engagement and strategic planning for the good of society, all within a bedrock of data science and ethics. The speaker series brings together people from government, business, and academia who want to investigate how data can shape public policy and is a partnership among several University of Virginia entities, including the Biocomplexity Institute, the School of Data Science, and the Darden School of Business.
