Earth Day Volunteer Event on the Mount Vernon Trail

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be celebrating Earth Day by removing invasive bush honeysuckle from the trail near the 14th Street Bridge. The address provided is from the nearest parking lot.
Volunteers may perform some of the following work:
- Using pruners, folding saws or loppers to cut vegetation
- Hauling away and stacking cut vegetation
What to Bring:
- Water
- Gloves (We'll have some to borrow)
- Pruners, folding saws, or loppers if you have them (We'll have some to borrow)
- Long sleeves and long pants
Where to Meet:
The work area is on the Mount Vernon Trail near the 14th Street Bridge connection. If coming by car, allow some additional time to walk from the parking lot to the starting location.

The registration table is a:
- 12 minute walk (0.5 miles) from Columbia Island Marina Parking Lot
- 17 minute walk (0.8 miles) from Gravelly Point Parking Lot
Please factor this into your commute time to the event.

When you arrive follow the purple Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail (FoMVT) signs and arrows to the registration table. Once registered you will be assigned a work zone.
Bathrooms:
There are no bathrooms on the trail. You can use the bathroom at Columbia Island or Gravelly Point.
Things to Note:
There is a possibility of encountering poison ivy. Please be sure to wear long sleeves and long pants to avoid the possibility of exposure. Volunteer leaders will be sure to point out poison ivy while working.
Group Volunteering:
Friends of Mount Vernon Trail welcome groups to come volunteer at events. If you plan on having more than 20 people come on a particular weekend, just let them know via email (hello@mountvernontrail.org) so they can better prepare supplies and promote your group’s attendance on social media.
