The University of Virginia's Biocomplexity Institute, Data Science Institute and Darden School of Business, in partnership with the Northern Virginia Technology Council, announce the Data Science for the Public Good (DSPG) Forum, comprised of a speaker series and annual symposium, which seek to show how data science can support evidence-based policymaking and innovation. The forum invites guests from the local, state and federal government, business, academics, students and the general public.
Governor Martin O’Malley kicks off the series on June 14, 2019 (4:00-6:30 p.m.) with his talk, Smart Government: the Data, the Map, and the Method. O'Malley is the former Governor of Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore who introduced data-driven government reporting and management programs such as CitiStat, StateStat and BayStat.
The symposium is August 9, 2019, (1-4:30 p.m.) and includes two keynotes (Ron Jarmin, just past Census Director, and Phil Bourne, Director of the University of Virginia’s Data Science Institute and Acting Dean of the School of Data Science), followed by a poster session and refreshments.
All DSPG events will take place at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business Sands Family Grounds located in Rosslyn at 1100 Wilson Blvd, 30th Floor, Arlington, VA 22209.
