Spaces debuts this week

Huge, modern new co-working space offers excellent option for growing companies and those who work from home

On Monday, Rosslyn BID President Mary-Claire Burick participated in the ribbon-cutting for Spaces, a new co-working spot located at Monday Properties' 1101 Wilson Blvd. at the former home of the Arlington arts center Artisphere.

The Spaces concept, which originated in Amsterdam, aims to provide clients with an engaging, motivating community of fellow professionals who establish an energizing environment for getting work done. Considered a boutique co-working space, the Rosslyn office and another in NoMa are the only two Spaces locations in the D.C. area. There are a dozen in the U.S.

"We love how Spaces encourages a sense of community with its design, programs and overall empowering atmosphere," Burick said at the ribbon-cutting. "That’s what we’re all about here in Rosslyn, so I know you and your clients will feel right at home. I want you to know that you have the full support of the Rosslyn business community, because when you succeed, we all succeed."

"We’re proud that Spaces has chosen Rosslyn as its next home,” added Tim Helmig, managing partner of Monday Properties. “1101 Wilson Boulevard offers the best in-class amenities for employees and an ideal location for companies like Spaces that are looking to grow their business and foster an exciting social atmosphere that promotes fresh thinking. This opening further exemplifies how Rosslyn continues to attract a diverse, entrepreneurial and savvy workforce."

Membership options to fit any style

There are a lot of choices for those seeking to work at the Spaces community. Members can plug in to any of Spaces' workstations each time they arrive, or they can pay a bit more for a reserved desk, which is their own dedicated workstation. Spaces also leases private offices for individuals or small companies. Flexible lease agreements offer a great option for growing small businesses, which can decorate and brand their suites however they choose. Spaces in Rosslyn will accommodate 800 members, who can access the space 24 hours a day with their key card.

Not far from the welcome desk at the entrance is a large open area that can be reserved for meetings and parties. It features a full, walk-in kitchen, a bar/café and eight beer taps. When not in use for events, it doubles as a co-working space.

The Rosslyn location also offers members access to 9,000 square feet of outdoor space, including a large balcony that overlooks some of the neighborhood's tallest buildings and features tables and chairs, ping pong tables, shuffleboard and a large movie screen. Also, Spaces' eighth-floor atrium is connected to Freedom Park, providing a pleasant outdoor space with plenty of green, places to sit, and a bocce court.

Creative touches inspire productivity

What's unique about Spaces in Rosslyn?

Flexible lease agreements and impressive amenities aside, Spaces offers an amazing environment. Decorated in the company's signature style, the nearly 40,000 square foot office has a clean and modern look. Its cheerfully painted areas house not just workstations, but also plenty of couches, chairs and soft pillows for lounging. This is a place for getting work done, but it's also a place to have fun and take a break. To that end, there are interesting and playful items sprinkled everywhere you look, such as board games, adult coloring books and crayons, paints, art books and unique, hand-curated knick-knacks. Known as behavioral health therapy mechanisms, these are more than just whimsical: they can help boost productivity by giving members a way to decompress and refocus their energies. Spaces also offers a comfortable wellness room where nursing mothers can pump and other members can rest if they're not feeling well. It has a modern fitness center for members, as well.

Kristin Nori, Spaces' area manager, says Spaces is actively recruiting new members. To that end, for their first month, they are offering free day passes to those who drop by the front desk. It's a great way for potential members to find out if the Spaces concept is a good fit.

Space will host a Grand Opening celebration January 18. This community event will feature cocktails, live music and an art showcase throughout the center. Stay tuned for details!
